Read moreVoters in the Butner School District will be asked Tuesday, May 16 to approve a $160,000 bond issue for the construction of five elementary classrooms and facilities. Also include in the bond issue are funds to construct dressing rooms and public restrooms in the gymnasium. “The State Department of Education has made a requirement that schools cannot have over 32 pupils in an elementary classroom,” Superintendent C. Shelby Sherrill stated. “Our present classrooms are very much overcrowded and there are no vacant rooms left to divide the classes.” In the event an elementary class has more than 32 students, the school will lose state aid on the number of students in average daily attendance in the classes that have over 32, the school official noted.
