American Legion Post 204 is paying tribute to deceased veteran Charles “Jack” Jethro Miller by flying a special flag in his honor at Veterans Park in downtown Seminole. The flag began flying Aug. 1 and will fly the entire month.

Miller was born June 24, 1960 in Wewoka to parents Joseph Calvin Miller, Sr. and Dorothy Mae (Stephens) Miller. He attended Butner Schools and graduated from Butner High School. Charles served his country in the United States Navy. He was employed at Nobletown School as a custodian for 15 years and Stepco Steel as a welder for 35 years. He passed away at his home in Wewoka, on September 8, 2020 at the age of 60.

Miller is survived by his mother, Dorothy Mae Miller, his brothers, Joseph C. Miller, Jr. of Wetumka, Oklahoma, Roland M. Miller of Okmulgee, Weldon L. Miller of Wewoka, and Ray C. Blanton of Wewoka, and his sister, Drusilla B. James of Wewoka. He was preceded in death by his father, grandfathers, Melvin Miller and Claud Stephens, Sr. and grandmothers, Dora Mae Stephens and Betty MacNac.

The local American Legion Post, under the command of Carl Odom, honors a different veteran each month by flying a flag in their honor. Veterans Park is located on Main Street next to the Municipal Building.

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization and focuses on service to veterans, servicemembers and communities.
