Early Voting In EMS Tax Election to Open Thurs.

Posted in:

Early voting in the Aug. 10 special county-wide tax election opens tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 5 and continues through Friday, Aug. 6 at the Seminole County Courthouse from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. both days.

On May 24, the Seminole County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) called the election for the extension of a quarter-cent sales tax to fund emergency services in the county.

Three propositions appear on the ballot: Proposition One calls for dividing 40 percent of the revenue equally between the eight fire departments in Seminole County. Under Proposition Two, 30 percent of the revenue will be divided equally among the Konawa, Seminole and Wewoka ambulance services. Proposition Three states that the remaining 30 percent of the revenue will go to the county’s 911 system. A sample ballot appears on page 8 of today’s edition.

If approved by voters, the tax extension will take effect Jan. 1, 2022 and expire on Dec. 31, 2026.

In-person voting is slated for Tuesday, Aug. 10. Polls will open at 7 a.m. – and close at 7 p.m. Voters should check their voter registration card for their precinct location or call the Seminole County Election Board at (405) 257-2786.

The state election board offers an online voter portal, which may be accessed at oklahoma.gov/elections. With a name and date of birth, voters can complete a voter registration application, request absentee ballots, verify voter registration information, view voting districts, find polling place information, view a sample ballot, check the status of absentee ballots and respond to an address confirmation notice.
