The Oklahoma Energy Index contracted again last month as employment and rig activity continue to fall. Payroll employment of exploration and production companies fell to just over 34,000 jobs, a level of employment last seen in 2005. At the same time, Oklahoma averaged only 10 active rigs in any given week as new drilling has all but stopped in the state.

Seminole Public Schools is planning to return to school on August 21 with in-person traditional classes and virtual learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each student will receive a Chromebook to complete distance learning assignments, but not all students have readily available access to the internet.

Bulk trash collection has been modified for August due to the ongoing pandemic. WCA Waste Corporation is changing the routine of bulk trash pick-up to a drop-off at a roll-off dumpster on “A” Street behind the Seminole Fire Department until Wednesday, August 12, the City of Seminole announced over the weekend.

Unexpectedly, Shetara Sims came into $100. Ordinarily, that would instantly be swallowed up in the single mom’s daily expenses. After all, with only $7 left, feeding herself and her 12-year-old daughter was going to be a challenge. But something else weighed on her heart, too. A Kansas City police officer had been wounded in the line of duty and the department was accepting donations for the officer’s family expenses. And the KCPD had been angelic toward Sims when her oldest daughter had been killed in 2012. So, she and her daughter, Rakiya, managed an anonymous donation—that wouldn’t stay anonymous.
