U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack this week announced that the Department is investing $770 million to help create new and better market opportunities (PDF, 366 KB) for rural businesses and people in 36 states and Puerto Rico. The investments include $640 million for 122 projects to help people living in socially vulnerable communities.

Read moreGuests visiting the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden’s Predator Pass habitat will have an opportunity to see the Zoo’s newest animal family members two male African painted dogs. The painted dogs, Guy and Remy, both almost fouryears-old, recently arrived at the OKC Zoo from ZooTampa at Lowry Park in Tampa, Florida as part of a breeding recommendation for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan® (SSP) for African Painted Dogs. Guy and Remy were matched with the Zoo’s female painted dogs, River and Pele, both 3, and are residing at Predator Pass. The OKC Zoo participates in this SSP for African painted dogs and other species as part of a collaborative effort that aims to maintain sustainable populations within AZA accredited zoos and aquariums.
