Okmulgee High School Under Investigation by State Dept. of Education

The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) is investigating allegations of abuse at Okmulgee High School, located about an hour away from Seminole. According to a news release, the OSDE was made aware of alleged “repeated infractions” through the department’s Awareity reporting system.

Number of Area Schools Affected by Flu Continues to Grow

The list of schools in Seminole County affected by illness including influenza continues to grow. As reported in our Jan. 30 edition, Butner Schools and Varnum Elementary moved to virtual learning Thursday and Friday due to a high number of absences related to the flu.

Bice And Colleagues Introduce Stop Illegal Reentry Act

Congresswoman Bice (R-OK) and Senator Cruz (R-TX), introduced the Stop Illegal Reentry Act, also known as Kate’s Law. The bill would amend federal law to impose a mandatory minimum sentence of five years for an illegal alien who has multiple convictions, or a conviction for an aggravated felony.

Honoring a King

Scott Lee, from the OG&E Seminole Power Plant, recently visited New Lima Schools. He read the book “Be a King” to Mrs. Posey’s first graders in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. He also donated the book to the class after reading it to the students.

Flu Bug Bites Seminole County

The flu bug has bitten Oklahoma, and Seminole County is starting to feel the effects. The latest Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) report, which was for the week ending Jan. 28, shows 2,222 confirmed cases of flu in Oklahoma.
