Lions Club Wins Boren Community Achievement Award

The Seminole Lions Club was presented with the David Boren Community Achievement Award at the Seminole Chamber of Commerce Banquet Tuesday evening, Jan. 28.

The award was based on the club’s achievements last year, which are listed below.

Fundraisers Cecil Sullivan Golf Tournament on June 21st, 2024, raised 14,820 for local Community projects.

Purchased arched sign for Brian Crawford Sports Complex, Trojans soccer field.

Achievements Two schools added to the KidSight screening, Seminole Lions Screened 11 schools and 1600 students’ third grade to 6-yearold in 2024 at no cost to the schools.

Purchased ten tables and 101 chairs for the Community room. (golf course) Purchased 18 cement tables w/pad, one cement park bench for Brain Crawford Sports Complex, SSC Softball field American legion Park, BLS School and Wilson School. (20232024) Donated $2,500 toward the Boomtown playground reconstruction.

Gave three $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors.

Gave two scholarships to Camp Goddard.

Donated $500.00 for upgrade to Camp Goddard.

Sponsored student of the month and SSC teacher of the month.

Sold programs at home football games and raised $1,400.00 (2023-2024) for SHS Booster Club.

Upgraded Snowman Wonderland display lights to LED and added new displays.

Donated $3,000 to the City of Seminole to replace equipment stolen from the Snowman Wonderland building.

Hosted activity night at Snowman Wonderland, had approximately 300 in attendance, gave away one boy and one girl bicycle and movie tickets, donated $100 each to ESA and to the Oklahoma jump rope team.

Awards Presented Melvin Jones Fellowships to two Lion members, Matt Pollock and Danna Riffle. MJF is the highest honors that can be presented to a fellow Lion. Each fellowship costs $1,000.00 each to LCI (Lions Club International) for disaster relief, of which Seminole has received funds.

Lion Chuck Chadick and Sequetta Potter were honored at the football game for their service in the military.

The Seminole Lions Club typically meets every Tuesday at noon in the Mirror Room of the E.T. Dunlap Student Union at Seminole State College.

The Seminole Chamber of Commerce honored the Lions Club for its community achievements during the Chamber’s annual banquet Tuesday evening. The award is the namesake of David L.
