The State Historic Preservation Office will host a free webinar on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at noon for people to learn more about the Dawes Rolls and how to use them to find your ancestors. Laura Martin, deputy director of the Oklahoma Historical Society Research Division, will be the presenter.

Former Oklahoma legislator and respected civil rights attorney Ryan Kiesel died Friday after a lengthy battle with cancer. His death comes two weeks after his 45th birthday. A Democrat from Seminole, Kiesel won election to House District 28 in 2004 after working for former Sen.

It was a deadly weekend on Interstate 40 in Seminole County, as four people were killed in two separate crashes. Just before 11 p.m. Saturday, three people perished and several others were injured in a pileup that involved at least five vehicles.

Sophia Hines and Tatum Batchelor, both barefoot and clad in shorts, ventured out Friday afternoon to swing and grab some sunshine at Boom Town. Should they do so again this weekend, their feet might be a little warmer, as temps in the 60s are in the forecast.

American Legion Post 204 is flying a special flag the month of February in honor of a fallen Marine who was highly decorated. This month’s flag, which flies in Veterans Park north of the Seminole Municipal Building, honors Jerry Streater, who passed away in 2021.

The Board of Education on Tuesday advanced a proposal to ask for proof of citizenship or legal immigration status from families when they enroll in public school. Hundreds of people gathered outside the building in protest.
