Free Dawes Roll Webinar Set Feb. 19
The State Historic Preservation Office will host a free webinar on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at noon for people to learn more about the Dawes Rolls and how to use them to find your ancestors. Laura Martin, deputy director of the Oklahoma Historical Society Research Division, will be the presenter.
Enrollment for the Dawes Rolls started in 1898 and closed in 1907, though some individuals were added between 1912 and 1914. In general, the Dawes Rolls list individuals who lived with their nation in Indian Territory, chose to apply and were approved by the Dawes Commission. The Dawes Rolls can be used to trace your ancestry to one of the Five Tribes, which include Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee (Creek) and Seminole.
Register online for the webinar. For more information, contact Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer Lynda Ozan at 405-522-4484 or lynda. ozan@history.ok.gov.
