Curtis “Verl” Mathews passed away on May 16, 2026 surrounded by his family and friends.

Verl was born in Oklahoma City on September 10, 1958 to Curtis Dean and Peggy Jane Mathews. He attended and graduated from McCloud High School in 1976.

He worked for and retired from Pope Construction after 30 years of service as a supervisor. He also worked as a mechanic, welder, doing small projects and past times with his cattle. His diligence and work ethic he passed down to his kids and grandkids.

He also enjoyed spending time with his family and helping in any way he could offer.

Verl is preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Taylor Loften.

Verl is survived by his life long love and the mother of his children Martha Mathews and her spouse David Carter; son, John Andrew Loften and wife Tiffany of Seminole; son, “T.J.” Terry Joe Loften and partner Brandi Harden of Seminole; daughter, Christie Mathews Ramsey and husband Rusty of Foster, Ok; grandkids, Austin, Kolby, Lindsay, Roxy, Jenna, Tia, Shelbi, Skylar, Landon, Gus and Jacob; and multiple great grandkids, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A viewing for Verl was held on Friday, May 22, 2026 at OK Cremation and Funeral Home in Oklahoma City.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlegs Assembly of God in Bowlegs, OK with Pastor Willie Williams officiating.

Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens located on US-270 in Seminole, OK.

Everyone is welcome to attend.
