Truman Junior Gaines, 92, Henryetta, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at his home in Henryetta, Oklahoma.

He was born May 21, 1928 in Sasakwa, Oklahoma to parents Homer Lee and Ollie (Trout) Gaines. Truman lived his formative years in the Sasakwa and Wewoka communities but spent most of his life in Seminole, Oklahoma. Truman worked the

Seminole Oilfields most of his adult life and retired as Warehouse Manager for Baroid Company in Seminole.

Truman served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. During his military service he received a commendation from the Holland Monarchy for repairing a dam break and thereby rescuing the city of Amsterdam from a flood.

He was a member of the Hilltop Freewill Baptist Church in Wewoka, Oklahoma.

Truman was an artist, who loved painting pictures, woodworking, fishing, loved working on his tractor, being with his family, gardening, growing roses and taking care of his pecan trees. Truman loved his simple lifestyle and was the family’s hero. He had a great personality, was very funny and was a jokester.

Truman married Norma Jean (Rose) Gaines on March 12, 1954 in the Snomac, Oklahoma community. They enjoyed 64 wonderful years together.

Truman is survived by his loving wife Norma of the home, two daughters; Vicki Walden and her husband Tim of Carson, Oklahoma and Linda Duncan of Henryetta, Oklahoma, one brother Bobby Gaines and his wife Connie of Henryetta, Oklahoma, his grandchildren; Shayne Walden and his wife April, Jared Walden and his wife Marsha, Dana Duncan, Mathew Duncan and Starla Demings, great grandchildren; DeLace, Conner, Callie, Baleigh and Madison Walden and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death his parents, his sister; Doris Gaines, brothers Herman, Lee and Hulen Gaines.

The family received visitors from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, November 30, 2020 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma

Graveside services for Truman will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Pastor Jim Benedict of the 1st Freewill Baptist Church in Wewoka will officiate.

Truman’s grandsons will be honorary casket bearers.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
