Ray Gene Melton

Ray Gene Melton was born January 10, 1936 to Joe and Mary Etta (Lee) Melton at Ft. Towsen, Oklahoma.

Ray passed away June 25, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. Ray helped his father with the farming, until they moved to Oklahoma City in the early 50’s. He did odd jobs until he met Jack & Jim Cotton, who taught him bricklaying. In March 1966, he started his own Masonry Contractor Business, and laid brick all over the state of Oklahoma until his eyesight deteriorated and he was unable to continue working in 2000.

Ray liked to hunt and fish. He bird and coon hunted all over the state with his best friend Ken Towery. Ray also enjoyed raising and running Quarter Horses, and last but not least raising Angus cattle.

Ray married Marilyn Jacqueline (Knowlton) Melton on July 21, 1956 and to this union their son Raymond Eugene Melton and daughter Beverly Dawn Melton were born.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother Joe and Mary Etta Melton, his two children Raymond Eugene Melton and Beverly Dawn (Melton) Hurst, brothers Earnest and Mack Melton, sisters Estelle Huskins, Nettie Snyder, Bonnie Jones and Audria Page, his Mother-In-Law Mary Velma (Knowlton) Bray, Father-In-Law Walter (Jack) Knowlton, Brother-In-Law Wayne Knowlton and special nephew Joel Ray Roberts.

Survivors include his wife of almost 65 years Marilyn Jacqueline Melton, his grandchildren Brandon Michael Caylor, Brittany Dawn Gray, Austin Tyler Melton, special granddaughter and care giver Holli Yvonne Gray, great granddaughter Sawyer Renee Wayne, his Brothers-In-Law Dennis, Norman, Vern, and Max Knowlton as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. Pallbearers will include Max Knowlton, Howard Parsons, Kenneth Bevan, John Bevan, Chris Spencer and Ron Chapman. Honorary bearers will include Sawyer Wayne, Brandon Caylor, Austin Melton, Ken Towery, David Bevan, Wes Youngblood and Tom Waller.

The family would like to thank Life Spring Home Health and Hospice for their excellent Care.

Funeral Services will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home 500 SW 104 th St, Oklahoma City. A time of viewing will be held on Tuesday, 6/29 from 1-7 pm. and his funeral service will be held in the Resthaven Chapel on Wednesday, 6/30 at 2:00 pm.
