Janice Carolyn Calvert, 76, of Flower Mound, Texas passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 with her family by her side.

She was born on August 23, 1944 in McAlester, Oklahoma to Andrew and Juanita (Owens) Smith.

She was raised in McAlester until she met and then married the love of her life H.B. Calvert, Jr. on March 13, 1970.

Together they lived in the Wewoka and Maud areas building a strong loving family of nine children and a multitude of grandchildren that soon followed. Everyone always knew they had a soft place to land no matter what life threw at them. She enjoyed reading, movies, and simply spending time with her family. Although her favorite pastime was ensuring that she got “plenty” of beauty rest. She will be remembered as a kind and generous person who valued her family and loved everyone unconditionally.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, H.B. Calvert, daughter, Carmen McCraw, infant son, Anthony, father, Andrew Smith, mother, Juanita Smith, brother, Tommy Smith, and sisters, Elsie Mae Lizik and Rose Brodhacker.

She is survived by her siblings, Betty Roller of McAlester, OK, Linda Brown of McAlester, OK, and Andrew Smith Jr. of McAlester, children, Andrea VanOrden and husband Bob of the home, David Calvert of Baytown, TX, Brandan Calvert and wife Mary of Muskogee, OK, Carolyn Cummins of Krebs, OK, Rita Smith and husband Andrew Jr. of McAlester, OK, Randy Calvert of Maud, OK, Kathy Lewis of Maud, OK, and Jimmy Calvert and wife Janna of Maud, OK, daughter-in-law, Marilyn Calvert of Maud, son-in-law, Wayne Green of McAlester, 28 cherished grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral ceremony will be held at Walker Funeral Chapel on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at 10:00 am. Following the ceremony, Janice will be laid to rest at Tecumseh Cemetery. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Walker Funeral & Cremation Service in Shawnee, OK on Friday, July 23rd until 6:00 pm.
