Cherry Jane Elizabeth Cherry was born on April 30, 1940, in Central, South Carolina, and passed away on April 21, 2024, in Shawnee, OK with her daughter Susan after a short battle with cancer. During her short battle, she was able to visit with many of her family members before her passing.

Jane was raised by loving mother Verna “Mama Hood’ and father Charles Hood in Georgia. She grew up with her brothers, Corbin, Robert, Frank, and Larry, and sisters, Naomi and Charlotte “Snookie”.

As a young adult, she moved to California to live with her sister “Snookie”. There is where she met her soldier and the love of her life Kenneth Armor Cherry. This began her love story. They went on to marry in Las Vegas in 1960. After the newly wedded couple returned to California, they started their own family. Jane was a loving mother to three sons, Kenny, Chuck, and Jeff, and one daughter, Susan.

Jane was not only a loving wife and mother. Professionally she assisted her husband Ken in his chiropractor practices for many years. During this time her family moved to Holdenville, OK to open a new practice and raise their children.

After their children were grown the couple moved to Shawnee, OK. This is where Jane cared for her husband until his last days, concluding 42 years of loving marriage.

Jane continued her passion for caring for others by becoming a CNA and starting her career in Seminole, OK. She worked at Avonlea Cottage for 17 years serving so many families. She was able to pursue this passion until 83 years of age.

During Jane’s life, she was blessed with a large loving family: son Chuck Cherry, who preceded her in death; eldest son Kenny Cherry and wife Ana, his children LaTasha, Preston, Payden, and Paige, and their mother Sharlotte; youngest son Jeff Cherry and wife Rene’ with their children Lacey and Miranda, her only daughter Susan Scott and her husband Bryan Little with her children Jay and Elizabeth.

Jane also had many great-grandchildren, whom they fondly referred to as “MawMaw”.

Jane was loved by so many. She is a person who impacts people’s lives regardless if you were a part of her family or you only met her once. She was not the type of person anyone forgets. Her spunky attitude and caring heart are something we will all carry with us in our own lives.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
