Long time Wewoka resident, Cecil Moore departed this life on Wednesday, May 11th, 2022 in Holdenville at the age of 96 years. Cecil was born September 1st, 1925 in Wetumka to the late William Cecil Moore and Tennie Faye Green Moore.

Cecil grew up in Sasakwa where he was raised by his grandparents, John and Ava Green. Cecil delivered papers as early as 8 years of age and continued as men in Sasakwa were called to War. He enlisted in the Navy at 18 years of age and was sent to Farragut, Idaho for Signalman training. Cecil served his country during WWII in the battle of Okinawa also Known as Operation Ice Berg as a signalman 1944 to 1946. He received the Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and Combat Action Ribbon. Cecil returned from the war and married his high school sweetheart, Veta Houston May 16, 1946 in Wewoka. Cecil and Veta owned and operated the Sasakwa Telephone Company. Cecil raised beef cattle and owned a Holstein Dairy farm and was a hair dresser and barber along side his wife Veta for over 40 years. Cecil served the First Baptist Church as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, singing in the choir. Cecil served his community working with young people and doing Wewoka Tiger Football stats for 40 years and was a Wewoka City Councilman and Commander of The VFW Lodge 1311.

Preceding Cecil in death are his parents, wife Veta, son, Kenny, grandson, Tony Reid.

Survivors include his daughter, Sondra and husband Rob Reid of Springfield, Missouri, grandchildren, Jeff Reid, David Reid, Katy Reid Cotter and husband Chris, Jaimee Reid Forman and husband Eric, and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 P.M. Monday May 16, 2022 at the Wewoka First Baptist Church with Pastor Nathan Brumley officiating and Interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery Wewoka, OK. Pallbearers: Randy Chaney, Guy Tucker, Jeff Reid, David Reid, Herbert Moon, James Bryant.

Honorary Pallbearers are Earl Bevelhymer, Ferril Williamson, Dwight Smith and Jim Mathews.
