Churchwell

Bowlegs resident Carl Ray Churchwell, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023, at his home.

Carl, the son of James and Lillian (Hackney) Churchwell, was born March 12, 1949, in Oklahoma City. On May 11, 1965, he married Ruthie Fay Dunigan in Oklahoma City. Carl was the owner and operator of C & R Auto Sales. Carl enjoyed his life, he would go to yard sales and flea markets, being a car guy, Carl would often attend car shows, he liked to travel and he did the driving, he was truly blessed. He liked old cars and he enjoyed working on and rebuilding old cars. Carl was a fan of music, two of his favorites were Elvis and Hank Williams. But above all Carl loved his family, his kids and grandkids. He was a storyteller, he often shared stories with his kids and grandkids about growing up.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian Hackney and James Churchwell; a brother, James Edward Churchwell; and sisters Ellen Shumaker and Bonnie Brown.

Carl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruthie Far Churchwell, of the home; three children, Diana Churchwell of Bowlegs, Clarence (Bud) Churchwell of Bowlegs, and Laurie Churchwell of Maud; seven grandchildren, Chris Jenkins, Tessa Churchwell, Brittany Churchwell, Cody Churchwell, Raela Vasquez, David Churchwell, and Amy Mackrel; four brothers, Billy King of Oklahoma City, Jimmy Churchwell of Tulsa, William Churchwell of Texas, and Daniel Churchwell of Hugo; two sisters, Mary Donison-Churchwell, and Jewell Clough-King; along with many other family and friends.

Services will be Friday, April 28, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, with Larry Chesser officiating. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
