Single-Car Crash on I-40 Sends Passenger to Hospital
A single-vehicle accident in Seminole County sent the passenger to the hospital Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 6:39 p.m. on eastbound Interstate Highway 40 near mile marker 210, approximately 1.9 miles west of Cromwell, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).
Chanden Jacobs, age 18, from Okmulgee, was driving a 2000 Lexus eastbound on Interstate Highway 40 with three passengers. Jamie Bear, age 33, from Henryetta, was riding in the passenger seat and two juveniles, ages 13 years and three months, were also in the vehicle.
Jacobs departed the roadway to the left and then overcorrected, leaving the roadway to the right and striking a guardrail. The vehicle overturned and ejected Bear approximately 73 feet from where the vehicle came to rest in the right-hand lane.
Bear was transported in stable condition by Air Evac to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa with trunk internal injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Jacobs and the two juvenile passengers were all wearing seat belts and were not injured. Airbags were deployed during the crash.
The condition of the driver at the time of the accident was normal and the official cause of the crash is listed as inattentive driving. The weather was clear at the time of the incident.
OHP Trooper Dion Wild #732, of the Seminole County detachment of Troop D, investigated the collision. He was assisted by Trooper David Storts #231 and Trooper Brian Iker #333.
