Oklahoma Real ID Required by Oct. 1, 2020
Time for Oklahoma residents to upgrade to Real ID.
Starting Oct. 1, passengers will need a Real ID or another acceptable form of ID to board a commercial flight at all U.S. airports.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the state will begin issuing Real IDs on April 30 at select locations in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, with full statewide implementation by the end of August 2020.
In 2005 Congress passed a bill on the Real ID and in 2017 Oklahoma legislation passed the bill in Oklahoma which allowed Oklahoma time to prepare for the changeover.
At that time Oklahoma had approximately 11 months to prepare for the change.
Anyone planning to travel by commercial airline must have a new Real ID.
Anyone entering a Government building will need one as well.
Anyone 18 years or older will be required to have the Real ID before Oct. 1, 2020.
If you have a valid drivers license you will not be able to just renew.
You will need to provide proof of identity/ lawful presence in the U.S. The documents must be an original or a certified copy. Notarized documents are not accepted.
If your name is different from the document which is presented, due to a marriage, divorce, or court ordered name change, or if name is not the same on all documents that you submit.
You must provide additional documents with legal proof of every name change. Each document must be an original or a certified copy. Notarized documents are not accepted.
You must provide two forms of proof of your current Oklahoma address. Junk mail or personal letters will not be accepted.
All documents must be authentic and not forged.
A new Real ID for first time issued will cost $38.50, for a replacement $25.00.
When your ID or DL has expired you are not required to get the new Real ID, but in order to fly or enter any government or federal building you will have to show the Real ID.
