Early Voting Opens Thursday in Mayor, City Council Contest
Early voting in the Feb. 9 municipal elections will get underway this week at the Seminole County Courthouse.
Eligible voters may cast in-person absentee ballots Thursday, Feb. 4 and Friday, Feb. 5 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. The courthouse is located at 110 S. Wewoka Street in Wewoka.
In the City of Seminole, incumbent Mayor Jeff Griffin is being challenged, for a second time, by local businessman Lee Randle. Griffin defeated Randle for the post in 2019.
Also at stake in Seminole is the Ward II seat on the city council, which is currently held by Eddie Foreman. Anthony Davidson is seeking to be the next Ward II representative.
Two items are on the ballot for voters in Konawa. Dave Herriman is looking to retain his seat on the city council in a contest with Candice Pumilia. Voters will also face a proposed amendment to the city’s charter.
The proposition on the ballot is to expand the residency requirement area for the Konawa City Manager. Under the current charter, the city manager must live within the city limits, but if the amendment is passed, the city manager could live within the city limits, the school district that overlaps the city limits or within 10 miles of the city or school district.
Oklahoma’s proof of identity law requires every voter who votes in person at the precinct polling place or during early voting at the County Election Board to show proof of identity before receiving a ballot.
A valid photo ID or voter registration card may be presented as proof of identity, or you may vote by provisional ballot and prove your identity by signing a sworn affidavit.
Polls will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, Feb. 9 from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. To find your polling location, check your voter ID card or call the Seminole County Election Board at (405) 257-2786.
