Wesley Smith remarking that the groundhog certainly didn’t see his shadow today… That could mean that Spring is on its way but Smith remarked that a solid dash of wintry weather could be included in its travel… Remember those March snows he added…
Damages only to the two vehicles involved resulted from the crash of two cars on a county road five miles west and a mile south of Wewoka about 5:15 p.m. Saturday, the hightway patrol reported.
Trooper Steve Jantz of Wewoka identified the drivers as Buster Johnson of Route 1, Wewoka, and Larry Oliver Chesser, also of Route 1, Wewoka.
Jantz said Johnson traveling east was making a right turn off the road into a private drive and swung out into the westbound lane as he was making the turn. He pulled into the path of Chesser, Jantz said. Damages to each car estimated at $300 and Johnson was cited for improper turn.
In Emmaus, Pennsylvania, a former Seminole resident will appear on a weekly Nashville-style country and western show, the first of which will be Saturday. One of the features will be Bill South and the Southerners.
Bill South and his wife left Seminole about 14 years ago. Mrs. South was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Williams who lived east of city. Friends of the family called Mr. Williams, Uncle Jeff.
Mrs. Nancy M. (Jack) Meadows of 806 ‘E’ street, suffered multiple cuts and abrasions on her face and shoulders in a two-car accident at East Strothers and Harvey Road shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, police reported. She was admitted to Seminole Municipal hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Police said Mrs. Meadows was the driver of one of the cars involved in the accident in the intersection of the two streets. The other was Charley Overstreet of Route 1, Wewoka. Overstreet was not reported as injured.
Following the collision the Overstreet car caught fire and burned and was listed as a total loss. Mrs. Mead ows car had an estimated $400 in damages, police said.

The Seminole Junior College Blue Belles in a touch-and-go contest at the Seminole high school gym Saturday night pulled out with a 29-27 halftime lead against the Parsons College Wildcats from Iowa. However they were not able to keep that lead as the Parsons girls flipped in 18 points the final quarter to pull out a 56-52 victory against the Belles.
The Saturday night game was the second contest played against Parsons this past weekend by the Belles and in a game Friday night the Belles won against Parsons 61-54. With one win and one loss this weekend the Belles now hold a record to date of 9 wins and 10 losses. The Belles will play their next game Friday night when they travel to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to play the Quachita University Tigerettes who feature 6-11 Gwen Bachman.
