SHS Students Evacuated Over Written Bomb Threat

Posted in:

Seminole High School was evacuated early yesterday afternoon following the discovery of a written bomb threat in a restroom.

Just after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, the school district utilized its mass notification to inform parents and guardians of students of the situation.

“We want to inform you that a message referencing a bomb was discovered written in a bathroom stall at Seminole High School. Out of an abundance of caution, the school is currently being evacuated while law enforcement conducts a full sweep of the building,” the message stated.

Superintendent Dr. Bob Gragg said the threat, which was somewhat vague, was written on a toilet taper dispenser in one of the girls’ restrooms.

“The threat simply said, ‘bomb today.’ We did not know when ‘today’ was, so out of an abundance of caution, we evacuated the building,” Gragg said. “We take every threat seriously, whether it’s a bomb threat or a tornado threat. When it comes to taking care of our students and staff, I’d rather err on the side of caution in these types of situations.”

Gragg said the Seminole Police, Seminole Fire Department and Seminole Nation Lighthorse Departments responded to the scene. The all-clear was given about an hour after the evacuation.

The following message was sent when students returned to the classroom: “We want to inform you that all students are now safely back in class and the school day has resumed as normal. Please know that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We are incredibly grateful to our law enforcement partners for their swift, thorough, and professional response. Their quick action helped ensure that our campus remained safe through the situation. Thank you for your continued trust and support. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.”

Further details had not been released as of press time.
