Seminole Nation Election Slated; Candidate Filing Begins April 21

The Seminole Nation Election Board has announced the candidacy filing period for the upcoming Seminole Nation of Oklahoma General Election on July 12, 2025.

Tribal members may file for the office of Chief, Assistant Chief or Council Representative April 21-25. Candidacy filings will be accepted from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day at the Election Board Office located in the new Council House building at the Mekusukey Mission.

Any enrolled member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma who is at least 35 years of age and who possesses no less than one-quarter degree Seminole blood may be eligible for the offices of Chief or Assistant Chief. A $300 filing fee for Chief and a $200 filing fee for Assistant Chief must be posted with the Nation’s Election Board.

Any enrolled member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma who is at least 18 years of age and who possesses no less than one-quarter degree of Indian blood may be eligible for a seat on the General Council. This degree of blood shall not apply to Freedmen Council members. Freedman candidates must be at 18 years of age and provide documentation of their freedman ancestry. A $50 filing fee must be posted by each candidate for a Council seat.

Sasakwa, Strother, Mekusukey Mission, Shawnee, and Oklahoma City are the precinct locations. Precincts will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

Should a Run-Off Election become necessary it will be held on August 9, 2025, at the same precinct sites.

All Tribal members are encouraged to participate in this election. To be eligible to vote, individuals must be a Tribal member and at least 18 years old. A Tribal enrollment card or a government photo identification document is required to vote. Voters may vote at any precinct location or by absentee ballot. The request form for an absentee ballot will be available in the Election Board Office and online.
