Ribbon to be Cut on City’s Newest Mural At Noon on Monday
This Monday, March 24, the Seminole Chamber of Commerce and the Seminole Arts Council will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially recognize the latest addition to Seminole’s growing collection of public art, “Come Together.” The mural was created by Oklahoma artist Rick Sinnett, and the ribbon cutting event offers everyone an opportunity to meet and visit with the artist. This ceremony will begin at noon and the public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Most area residents have now had a chance to view the completed mural. It is approximately 100 ft. wide by 20 ft. tall and is located at 419 N. Milt Phillips Ave. on the south side of the Seminole Street Donuts building. The brightly colored mural features a large Monarch butterfly in the center with marching American Bison approaching the middle from both sides and a pattern of wildflowers covering the green grass below, with larger wildflowers gracing the blue sky above.
“We are excited to celebrate with the Seminole Arts Council their newest mural in Seminole,” stated Chamber Executive Director Amy Britt. “This will be such a great event.”
Artist Rick Sinnett has rapidly become one of Oklahoma’s most popular and well-known artists. Sinnett is often associated with his murals located along historic Rt. 66, and a growing number of his fans enjoy cruising the “Mother Road” to view his works. However, other murals are scattered elsewhere, and fans will plot additional trips to see these works as well, which will help draw tourists to the Seminole area.
This mural was commissioned by the Seminole Arts Council as part of their ongoing mission of providing public art that brings pride and joy to the community.
Seminole Arts Council Executive Director Jacqi Dill states, “Having Rick Sinnett in Seminole has been an absolute joy - his talent, energy, and creativity have brought both color and spirt to our community.”
“We’ve been coordinating the annual Mural initiative since 2020, and the pubic excitement surrounding this piece has been greater than ever,” Dill explains. “This mural is the largest we’ve installed through the initiative, making it a milestone for our program. We are incredibly proud to have this mural in our town, and we know it will leave a lasting impact for years to come.” The artist had an equally positive comment to make about his experience in Seminole. “It’s hard to describe in words how much joy painting this mural has brought me,” Sinnett shared on his Facebook page. “I’ve had the opportunity to meet and come to know some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met in my life while painting in Seminole. I want to express how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to do what I love to do and to do it in such an amazing community. The amount of gratitude that I am feeling at the moment is immense and there are so many people that I would like to thank.”
The Seminole Arts Council and Chamber of Commerce encourage everyone to attend this ribbon cutting event on Monday and let the artist know how much the community appreciates his work, which is certain to become a local landmark that is recognized far and wide.
