McKee Enters Blind Plea on Rape, Failure To Register Charges
District Attorney Erik Johnson announced Wednesday that John McKee, 36, of Seminole, entered a blind plea to Rape in the First Degree and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in Seminole County District Court. The plea was entered on the eve of his scheduled jury trial.
A blind plea is a specific type of guilty or no contest plea in which a defendant pleads to the court without any negotiated sentencing agreement with the State. In such cases, the court alone determines the punishment.
The charges stem from an incident on May 5, 2025, when McKee went to the victim’s residence, persuaded her to leave her home, and raped her. The victim is a venerable adult with special needs who, because of her condition and circumstances, was legally unable to provide valid consent.
McKee was convicted of rape in 2007 and, as a result, was required to register under the Oklahoma Sex Offender Registration Act; McKee nonetheless failed to comply with his registration obligations.
“Protecting the elderly and the most vulnerable members of our community is one of our highest priorities. Crimes that target individuals who are unable to protect themselves strike at the very core of public safety,” Johnson said. “This plea is a direct result of dedicated work by a multitude of individuals and agencies. I want to give particular thanks, however, to the Seminole Police Department and Detective Steve Williams for their efforts in investigating this case, and to Assistant District Attorneys Chris Hauger and Blayne Norman for their tireless work on these proceedings” Sentencing is scheduled for April 2026 in Seminole County District Court.
