GFL Environmental Buys Central Disposal
A waste collection company previously fired by the City of Seminole will once again be providing services to the city as the result of an acquisition.
GFL Environmental has purchased Central Disposal of Shawnee, which has been Seminole’s trash collection provider since July 1, 2022. GFL acquired Waste Corporation of America, which was under contract to Seminole, in late 2020. In February 2022, amid customer complaints against GFL, the Seminole City Council voted to let GFL’s contract expire June 30 of that year and begin a five-year agreement with Central.
Bryant Baker, Public Works Director for the City of Seminole, said customers will see little to no change in their services.
“We’re still dealing with the same management team at Central we’ve always dealt with, and customers will still see the same trucks running the routes. The only difference is that Central Disposal is now a subsidiary of GFL,” Baker said.
In December, GFL notified some customers by letter of the transition.
“We are delighted to introduce Environmental (GFL) as your new solid waste services provider. GFL acquired your account from Superior USA Waste which consists of Central Disposal, on September 2, 2025, and we are very excited to be working with you going forward,” the letter states in part.
Last September, GFL acquired Superior Waste Industries from private equity group Red Dog Equity in an all-cash transaction. Billy Dietrich established Superior Waste in March 2022 with an investment from Red Dog to acquire Central Disposal, founded by Mike Adcock. The company also purchased Harley Hollan later that year, establishing its footprint in the Tulsa market, and Sue’s Recycling and Sanitation in 2024, which extended Superior’s reach into Vian and Eufaula, The company also purchased SDS Roll-off Dumpsters in Shawnee that year.
According to its website, GFL is the only major diversified environmental services company in North America offering services in solid waste management, liquid waste management, and soil remediation. The company has strategic locations across the United State and Canada.
