Downtown Revitalization Project in Phase Two

Posted in:

The revitalization project in Seminole’s downtown district has entered the second phase of a three-pronged project, which involves the 200, 300 and 400 blocks of Main Street.

Phase one, which is still ongoing, is the replacement of water lines underneath the street. Phase two, reconstruction of sidewalks, got underway on Tuesday. Once completed, the sidewalks will feature handicap accessible ramps in the middle of each of the three blocks. The final phase, expected to begin in April, entails paving over the bricks on Main Street from Broadway north to Seminole Street.

Several days ago, Silver Star Construction sent letters to downtown businesses giving them a heads up that phase two was about to begin.

“As part of a commitment to a better Seminole, our street contractor will soon begin working on your sidewalk. We plan to begin construction on your street next week. The process will start by removing the old brick sidewalks and then pouring new concrete sidewalks. Our normal work hours are from 7 a.m. till 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. There are some occasions that we will work on Saturday to beat rain that maybe moving in or to make up rained out workdays. Also please be very cautious of the large machinery while the road is under construction, and be aware that there may be delays getting in or out during certain phases of the construction. Also be patient with our work crews, it’s our goal to do good work as quickly as possible and to keep you informed along the way,” the company wrote.

In December, the Seminole Urban Renewal Authority announced that it had given the go-ahead for the project, which had been the subject of numerous meetings and public hearings over the last two years.
