Rachel Martin penned a piece for The Atlantic earlier this month about how a near-tragedy reminded her what’s been stolen from us in this pandemic. She and her husband canceled their western U.S. vacation because of the virus. Instead, they traveled north from D.C. to New Hampshire to a park with a lovely waterfall. Families were playing and splashing in the cold water but the Martins decided to go higher into the rocks for better social distancing. The boys were playing in the rushing water when her eight-year-old slipped over the falls, landing on rocks 12 feet below. Dad sprinted down the side of the rocks and splashed out to the youth while families scrambled to their cars to flee any danger rather than stay to render aid.
