Berry Bobby Dean Berry was born at home in rural Stephens County, Oklahoma, on July 9, 1937. He was the son of Robert Isaac Berry and Annie Helen Berry (née Dean). Tragically, Bob never met his father, who died of complications from appendicitis just before he was born. Life was not easy for “the widow woman’s son,” but through strong character, quiet determination, an outstanding work ethic, and the steadfast moral guidance of his devout Christian mother, Bob grew into a young man known for his integrity and willingness to work hard. Many in the community stepped forward to support Bob during his youth and their kindness left a lasting impression on him, and as he matured and opportunities came his way, Bob never forgot those early acts of generosity and he spent his life extending the same helping hand to others that had once been extended to him.
