Read moreOn Tuesday, Sept. 28, the Judiciary Conference recommended five additional federal judges in Oklahoma because of an increased caseload due to the Supreme Court’s 2020 ruling in McGirt v. Oklahoma. This ruling held that land allotted by an 1832 treaty between the Creek Nation and the United States Government remains “Indian Country” for the purposes of the Major Crimes Act. The decision was later extended to four additional Indian nations and shifted the prosecution of the most serious crimes on tribal land from state court to federal or tribal court in much of the eastern part of Oklahoma.

Abigail and James are nursing students at Seminole State School of Nursing. The Auxiliary, also known as the “Pink Ladies,” are a non-profit group of volunteers that help raise funds for equipment and other needs at AllianceHealth. To help raise funds for their projects they will be hosting a purse sale this Thursday, Oct. 7 in the hospital’s Conference Room. They also operate the gift shop, located in the front lobby, which is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gift shop offers a wide variety of gift items, greeting cards, candy, toiletries, silk flowers, plants, and handmade items. All proceeds go towards hospital improvements and scholarships.
