Carter Kathryn Jane Hammond Carter (7/6/1962 to 7/14/2025) left her earthly body peacefully Monday, after a short illness in Oklahoma City.

Kathryn was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma and was raised from an early age in Seminole. “Kathy” was born fully hearing impaired and while that can be a difficult obstacle for some to overcome, it was never a problem for her. Kathy played softball and basketball growing up and later joined the high school dance team. Kathy was able to keep in step with her dance team just by feeling the vibrations of the drums in the music. After graduating from Seminole High School, Kathy attended Cosmetology School in Shawnee and that led to her taking a job at Coiffures By Dennis.

Kathy married Robert Wallace in 1981 and to that union, one child, Tanner, was born. Kathy loved to watch Tanner grow up and took great joy in cheering him on playing baseball and football. After her boss Dennis retired, Kathy took a job at Tangles Salon, where she remained for the rest of her career as a beautician. Kathy had lots of customers who loved her and were loyal to her for many years. When an elderly customer became immobile, Kathy would go to their home or even nursing homes to style their hair.

Kathy married Rick Carter in 2006. Kathy and Rick loved to fish, camp and watch Nascar Racing. They spent a lot of time at Sportsman’s Lake enjoying the outdoors.

Kathy’s biggest source of pride was her grandchildren. She burned up the highways between Shawnee and Colby, Kansas visiting them. Kathy enjoyed helping her mother, Evelyn tend to her garden. Evelyn also recruited Kathy to help make the fundraiser bread for the Seminole Oil Museum every year. They spent countless hours in Evelyn’s kitchen. When they needed a break, you might have found Kathy and Evelyn enjoying the local casinos.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Rick Carter and her parents, Ron Hammond and Evelyn Willingham.

Surviving Kathy is her son Tanner Wallace, grandchildren Kadence Wallace, Bailey Wallace, Jase Wallace and Leighton Wallace, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Debbie Hammond and Chris and Kristi Hammond, stepsisters Shari Norvell and Stacey Hefner and spouses, and a host of nieces and nephews. Nancy Baker, a special friend to Kathy, also survives her. The family would like to thank all that have reached out to love us in this difficult time. A private memorial will be held.
