OG&E linemen from across the company’s service area competed in the 35th annual Linemen’s Expo Saturday, an event that puts their training, safety focus and technical expertise to the test. The competition highlights the specialized work linemen perform every day to maintain reliable power for customers, particularly during severe weather.

“When severe weather strikes and conditions are at their worst, OG&E linemen answer the call,” said Chad Guthrie, director of transmission & distribution construction operations at OG&E. “Their experience, dedication, and highly specialized skills make them some the best in the industry, ensuring our communities have safe, reliable power when they need it most.”

This year’s expo welcomed representatives from the Department of Energy, who saw firsthand how the event combines friendly competition, professional development and camaraderie while highlighting the specialized skills required of linemen.

“American line crew members and the skills they are trained to perform are a critical part in serving grids across the United States,” said Katie Jereza, Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity.

“Skilled workers, like the ones I met today, coupled with strategic investments and automation, are strengthening and securing the American grid. The Department of Energy is proud to support and partner with local utilities like OG&E in keeping costs down for Oklahomans through federal grant programs, adding advanced technologies to help crews perform their jobs safely and quickly.”

During the expo, participants climbed power poles and (Continued from Page 1) competed in technical challenges that mirror real-life scenarios, all while demonstrating the expertise it takes to keep the power on in our communities. Competitions included a simulated rescue of an injured worker, among other competitions.

Each event requires focus, teamwork, communication, safety and extensive industry knowledge, demonstrating why OG&E linemen have earned a reputation as some of the best in the business.

The top three overall winners in the Team Competition, over 45 and Apprentice categories will represent OG&E at the International Lineman’s Rodeo and Expo competition in October in Overland Park, Kansas. Broc Scales In addition to the competition, the day included family activities for line crews and their loved ones, including a 5K run, classic car show, grill master contest and kids’ activities.
