Joyce Tucker
Tucker Joyce Ann Jackson Tucker our beautiful mom, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma passed away at her home in Wewoka on May 9, 2026 surrounded by immense love, leaving a void in the hearts of those who cherished her most.
She was truly one of a kind – full of beauty, strength, wit and wisdom. She loved deeply and unconditionally, always finding the good in everything. She was the heart of our family, our comfort, always making sure each of us knew we were THE favorite. She loved Jesus, her family, her friends and a good cup of coffee.
Joyce was born at her home on Jackson Hill in Holdenville, Oklahoma on September 19, 1932 to Diamond and Jacquetta Pearl Hammons Jackson. During her childhood she lived in several Oklahoma oil camp towns before her family settled in Wewoka, where she completed her education and graduated from Wewoka High School in 1950.
After graduation Joyce went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. quickly deciding her wages were best spent on new shoes. Joyce then pursued her dream of becoming a nurse showing incredible tenacity and dedication as she commuted to and from Tulsa for three years, all the while successfully rearing seven children. Joyce served as a Registered Nurse at Holdenville General Hospital for many years, where she formed many precious friendships.
On December 5, 1953 Joyce married Durward Duane Tucker. Together they had seven children, 23 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Joyce was a member of First Baptist Church Wewoka. She was recently honored as the longest standing member during the church’s 125th year celebration. Joyce worked in the nursery, served on the benevolence committee and various committees throughout her life. Many wonderful memories were made as a member of the church choir. Joyce loved her cantatas, Sunday morning specials and Wednesday night choir practice. Her beautiful soprano voice will live on in our hearts.
She enjoyed the simple things that brought people together and made them feel full. She loved watching the OKC Thunder, spending time working in the yard and making beautiful floral arrangements, and getting lost in a good novel. Family gatherings and holidays were among her happiest moments, especially when she could be surrounded by the people she loved most. She was also a talented artist who loved to paint, expressing her creativity through her artwork. Joyce found joy in creating beautiful things.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Durward Tucker, her parents Diamond and Jackie Jackson, sister Wanda Spence, beloved son Steven Tucker, and precious grandson Blake Tucker.
Survived by her children Barry Tucker (Debbi), Guy Tucker (Lisa), Teresa Streater, Suzanne Brown (Billy), Jennifer Kincade (Kerry), Heather Green (Curtis).

Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind - her laughter, her silliness, her warmth and the way she made people feel loved simply by being herself. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, treasured friend and proud Red Hatter who loved life’s simple joys, whether it was listening to Elvis, gathering with family, often watching westerns, sipping Dr. Pepper, baking her famous cherry pies, or leaving behind the unmistakable scent of Royal Secret that everyone came to know as hers. She was always known for having her toenails painted white, a small signature detail that was so perfectly her. Her vibrant spirit, loving heart, and playful nature brought joy to so many, and her memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and love shared by all who knew her. “It Is Well With My Soul” is a hymn that beautifully reflects the peace and faith she carried through life and will now rest in forever.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church Wewoka at 2:00pm Friday, May 15, 2026. Immediately following the service the family will host a reception in the church parlor to greet family and friends. A private family burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery where we will honor our mother in a Last Goodbye.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to FBC Wewoka for the Falls Creek Cabin Fund.
