Strother Yellowjackets Win at Home on Senior Night

The Strother held their Senior Night Thursday night as the Yellowjackets hosted the Bowlegs Bison.

The Lady Jackets swarmed the court in the first quarter and went on a 17-4 run with Brooklyn Turner posting eight points and Ludie Barrett- Higgins scoring five. The defense of the Lady Jackets continued in the second and held the Lady Bison to six points scored in the frame. Strother’s KK Murray found her threepoint range and knocked down two treys in the quarter.

The Bowlegs Lady Bison were down by 23 points at the half.

The Lady Jackets wanted to protect their home court on senior night and came out from break with some threepoint aerial shooting and dominated the quarter. Murray and Turner each had two treys, and Laniyah Harrison added one.

In the third quarter, Brooklyn Turner reached her 1,000th point mark in her basketball career. The Strother home crowd celebrated her accomplishment with cheers.

The hill was too big for the Lady Bison to make a comeback in the fourth and posted four points to their score as the Lady Jackets rolled in for the win with a final score of 68-16.

Leading the way for the Lady Bison was Teyha Coker with eight points, one trey and was one of two from the free throw line.

Ruth Dunagan scored six points from the field.

Leading the way for the Lady Jackets was Brooklyn Turner with 30 points, three treys and was one of three from the line.

K.K. Murray scored 15 points that all came from three-point shots (5).

Ludie Barrett-Higgins scored 9 points and was one of three from the line.

In between the girls and the boys games, Strother honored six of their seniors, Levi Gillespie, Brier James, Michael Kanard, Bryce Martin, Braiden Teague and Braydon Turner.

The battle between the Yellowjackets and the Bison was a nail-biter of a game.

Strother came out strong and lit up the scoreboard first and took the lead. The Bison settled down and came back and tied the game. Before the end of the quarter, the Yellowjackets edged out the Bison by one point.

The game had several lead changes in the second but never a blow out lead as both teams kept it close. This time the Bison edged out the Yellowjackets by one point before the half. Strother’s Peyton Moody scored seven points in the second and Cayxin Parson also scored seven in the frame.

The Yellowjackets regrouped during the break and fired back in the third with several three-points shots from Moody, Dorian Morales and Levi Gillespie to regain the lead.

The Bison were looking at a three-point deficit heading into the final quarter. Neither team let off the gas and battled throughout the frame.

Bowlegs’ Hunter Hamilton and Parsons added nine points from three treys scored to help keep the game close.

Strother’s DeAngelo Fixico scored six points from the field and Michael Kanard hit a three-point shot to help the Yellowjackets protect their home court with a final score of 62-60.

Leading the way for the Bowlegs Bison was Cayxin Parsons with 15 points and scored three treys.

Cylis Mack scored 13 points and was seven of nine from the free throw line.

Kingston Burgess scored 11 points. Nine points coming from three treys.

Leading the way for the Yellowjackets was Peyton moody with 14 points and two treys.

Michael Kanard scored 14 points, one trey and was three of six from the line.

DeAngelo Fixico scored 10 points from the field.

Both teams’ next games are away games before Districts.
