Strother Yellowjackets Add a Road Win at Konawa Monday Night

The Strother Yellowjackets traveled to Tiger Country to face the Konawa Tigers at home Monday night. Both games were a battle to the finish as the Yellowjackets win on the road.

First up was the girl’s game between the Lady Tigers and Lady Yellowjackets. It was a big defensive battle in the first with the Lady Yellowjackets pulling ahead by 5. Strother’s Brooklyn Turner scored all nine points for the Lady Yellowjackets in the first frame.

In the second, both teams struggled with foul trouble and went to the foul line most of the quarter.

The Lady Yellowjacket still hung on to their lead heading into the third quarter. The Lady Tigers came out from the break roaring and went to work with Chloe Tebe knocking down two treys to get the home crowd excited. Konawa went on a 12-8 run in the frame and closed the gap by one point.

In the fourth, Konawa continued with their threepoint shooting but committed to many fouls and sent the Lady Yellowjackets to the line where Strother outshot the Lady Tigers and won the game with a final score of 38-33.

Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was Chloe Tebe with 14 points, three treys and was one of two from the free throw line.

Bridgett Arms had 7 points, one trey and was two of two from the line.

Leading the way for the Lady Yellowjackets was Brooklyn Turner with 15 points, 3 treys and was 0-2 from the free throw line.

Olivia Speers had 14 points and was 4 of 7 from the line.

Next up was the Konawa Tigers and Strother Yellowjacket boys. It was a battle from the jump as both teams fought to gain the lead. The Tigers took the slight lead with an 11-9 run in the frame. Strother’s Peyton Moody and Konawa’s Tyler Whitney each knocked down a trey in the quarter to excite both crowds.

The Yellowjackets fired back in the second with some three-point aerial shots to outscore the Tigers 18-12 before the half.

The Tigers were down by four heading into the third. Konawa’s defense steeped in the third and held the Yellowjackets to 7 points scored in the frame as the Tigers tied the game up 34 all at the end of the quarter.

The game was a tug of war in the final frame with both teams slugging it out. The game went down to the wire with the Strother Yellowjackets edging out the Tigers 47-46 to win on the road.

Leading the way for the Tigers was Tyler Whitley with 14 points, one trey and was one of one from the free throw line.

Tegun Stalnaker and Damien McCullar each had 8 points on the evening.

Leading for the Yellowjackets was Michael Kanard with 14 points, two treys and was zero for one at the line.

Peyton Moody and DeAngelo Fixico each had nine points on the evening.

Next up for the Tigers is an away game at Asher in the 3rd of January. The next home game is the Konawa Tournament from the 8th through the 10th of January.

Next up for Strother is the Davenport Tournament on the 8th through the 10th of January. The next home game is on the 13th against Mason.

The game is set to start

at 6:30 p.m.
