Maud and Sasakwa Prepare for Their 2nd Round of the OSSAA Football Playoffs Tonight
After the first round of the 2025 OSSAA Football Playoffs, the Maud Tigers and Sasakwa Vikings remain standing and prepare for their second round tonight.
The Maud Tigers took care of the Bluejackets in their first round of the Class C football playoffs. With the win, the Tigers now face the #2 Timberlake Tigers tonight at Timberlake in a Battle of the Tigers.
Maud Head Coach Tim Collins stated on the Bluejacket win, “That was a good, young team who played really hard. They were a tough out. Our freshmen receivers stepped up big-time and Trenton was able to get them the ball.”
Coach Collins also commented on the upcoming game with Timberlake, “We won’t have our usual starting quarterback, but I have a ton of confidence in Colt Bassett. Timberlake is very physical, and we are going to have to match that. They have a 6’7” wide receiver that we will have to deal with as well. Hopefully, we can have time in the pocket to get the ball to our athletic receivers.”
For those traveling to Timberlake, the game is set to start at 7 p.m.
The Sasakwa Vikings don’t have to travel far as they host their second round against Tipton.
The Tipton Tigers will venture away from home to take on the Sasakwa Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Tipton comes in on four and Sasakwa on nine.
Tipton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Tyrone by a score of 22-12.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Sasakwa over South Coffeyville in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 37-14 margin over the Lions. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won nine matchups by 23 points or more so far this season.
Sasakwa’s win came from a few key players Tipton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Titan Collins, who picked up 176 receiving yards and three scores. He was no stranger to the big play, cutting up field on a catch that went for 55 yards. Another player making a difference was Thaddeus Harjo, who threw for 187 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 passes.
Tipton’s victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Sasakwa, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Everything came up roses for Tipton against Sasakwa when the teams last played back in November of 2019, as the squad secured a 76-42 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won’t have the home-field advantage this time around. We’ll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
