96 Golfers Gather for 74th Annual Pokkecetu Golf Tournament

Posted in:

Press Release by Angela Church Wewoka, OK – July 14, 2025 — The 74th Annual Pokkecetu Golf Tournament welcomed 96 golfers to the Dr. Gil Morgan Golf Course in Wewoka for a weekend of tradition, competition, and community spirit.

Hosted by the Wewoka Golf Association, this year’s event kicked off on Friday, July 11th with a scramble and continued through the weekend with individual medal play across eight flights including the Championship division.

Despite a brief rain delay Saturday afternoon, play resumed at 6:05 p.m., and the tournament ran smoothly thanks to the dedication of course staff and organizers. The course was in excellent condition, a credit to Course Manager Blaine Butner and his crew of staff and volunteers. Two greens were replaced in May including a practice green and number two green and were rolling smoothly. With help from the recent enhanced rainfall amounts the fairways were lush and green.

Saturday evening featured a catered dinner by Yum Yum’s at the Wewoka Country Club followed by a classic rock concert by local band “The Switch,” adding festive flair to the tournament weekend.

The highlight of the weekend was the Championship Flight, where Hunter Pennington emerged victorious after several years of close finishes. Pennington carded rounds of 68 and 71 for a total score of 139, narrowly edging out Blaine Butner by one stroke. Caleb Conn finished third with a total score of 143.
