Seminole Sales Tax Collections Down For Month, Year

The January release from the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC) shows the City of Seminole saw a decrease in tax revenue in their latest return compared to last month. The release showed this revenue was also lower compared to January last year.

The City of Seminole’s Use Tax was higher compared to last month, but it was lower than last year’s return.

The latest release explains the January distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from November business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from November 16th to November 30th and estimated sales from December 1st to December 15th.

The disbursement of $209,771,917 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $ 4,744,856 from the $205,027,061 distributed to them in January last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $ 41,842,841.

In county returns, the counties shared in a $33,275,109 sales tax disbursement and $7,943,171 in a use tax disbursement.

The CITY OF SEMINOLE has a sales tax rate of .04 percent. The city received a $$610,408.15 Sales Tax disbursement. This was $34,890.32 less than the $645,298.47 returned last month. The return was $6,385.62 less than the $616,793.77 reported last year.

The City of Seminole also receives a Use Tax, which is from purchases that are made out of state, usually from Internet sales. Seminole’s January Use Tax return of $76,099.80 was $2,311.51 more than last month’s $73,788.29. It was $2,951.03 less than last year’s $79,050.83 Use Tax return.

This month’s report shows SEMINOLE COUNTY, which has a sales tax rate of 0.0125, received a $320,450.81 sales tax disbursement for January. This was $25,247.36 more than the $295,203.45 returned last month. It was $12,971.29 less than the $333,422.10 returned last year.

The Seminole County Use Tax return of $52,724.45 was $769.03 less than last month’s disbursement of $53,493.48. It was $5,785.07 less than the $58,509.52 returned last year.

The December sales tax disbursement for the CITY OF WEWOKA of $103,730.34 was $12,594.62 more than last month’s return of $91,135.72. This disbursement was $21,515.16 more than last year’s return of $82,215.18. This is the eleventh report to show the recent rise in Wewoka’s sales tax from 0.04 percent sales tax to 0.0525 in January 2024 (this month’s returns are from November collections).

The City of Wewoka’s Use Tax return was $25,628.44. This was $3,933.42 more than the December return of $21,695.02. It was $5,694.64 more than last year’s $19,933.80 return.

The CITY OF KONAWA received a $37,226.86 January Sales Tax disbursement. This was $9,390.56 more than the $27,836.30 returned last month, and $6,211.55 more than the $31,015.31 return in January last year. Konawa has a 0.04 percent sales tax.

The City of Konawa’s Use Tax return for January was $10,631.00. This was $84.11 more than last month’s $10,546.89 disbursement but $1,337.35 less than the $11,968.35 returned last year.

The CITY OF MAUD has a 0.04% sales tax and receives a tax disbursement for both Seminole and Pottawatomie Counties. The portion located in Seminole County showed a $10,285.76 return for January. This was $262.41 more than last month’s $10,023.35 return. It was $589.85 more than last year’s $9,695.91 return.

(Maud’s Pottawatomie County sales tax disbursement was $5,240.39 this month and $8,560.92 last year).

Maud’s Seminole County Use Tax return was $1,850.48. This was $133.77 less than the $1,984.25 December return. It was $705.85 more than last year’s $1,144.63 return. (Maud received a Pottawatomie County use tax disbursement of $4,093.22 this month and $4,572.14 last year).

The CITY OF CROMWELL received a $4,983.31 sales tax disbursement for January. This was $1,863.20 more than the $3,120.11 December return and $908.20 more than last year’s return of $4,075.11. Cromwell has a 0.03 percent sales tax. Cromwell does not receive a Use Tax disbursement.

The CITY OF BOWLEGS received a $3,353.72 disbursement for January. This was $395.18 less than last month’s $3,748.90 disbursement. It was $1,031.00 more than last year’s $2,322.72 return. Bowlegs has a 0.03 percent sales tax. They do not collect a Use Tax.

The CITY OF SASAKWA received a $4,334.38 disbursement for January. This was $2,259.32 more than the $2,075.06 December disbursement and $1,999.47 more than the $2,334.91 disbursement last year. Sasakwa does not collect a Use Tax.
