FBI Investigating Homicide in Bowlegs

Posted in:

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating a murder that occurred just after Christmas near Bowlegs.

While few details have been released, where’s what we know as of press time.

Kyle Renton was arrested Dec. 28 and booked into the Seminole County Jail on anticipated charges of first-degree murder.

Seminole Nation Lighthorse Police requested the assistance of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), but the FBI ultimately took the lead in the investigation.

“We processed the scene, but the FBI became involved because a Native American was involved,” OSBI spokesperson Hunter McKee told the Producer on Wednesday.

Per the United States Supreme Court ruling in the McGirt vs. Oklahoma case, crimes involving Native Americans and tribal lands must be prosecuted federally rather than at the state level.

The victim was reportedly 45-year-old Jacob Adams of Seminole. We reached out to the FBI on Friday, but Kayla McCleery, Public Affairs Officer, said she was unable to confirm the names of those involved. She did confirm that the federal charges are pending against the suspect.

Following is information about funeral arrangements for Adams, taken from his obituary (the full version is on page two). Viewing will be held Sunday, Jan. 4, from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole. Jacob will be taken to New Hope Fellowship Church located at 12129 N. Hwy 56 in Wewoka at 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5. Jacob’s family has placed green arrows to show the way to the church from Walmart on Hwy 9 going East.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tues-day, Jan. 6 at New Hope Fellowship Church. Pastor Mickey Hill will be officiating. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Those serving as casket bearers will be Jason Sodapop Adams, Jamey Adams, Blade Adams, Justin Williams, David Adams and Jeremy Williamson.
