Wewoka Wins the Battle of the Tigers Over Konawa Monday Night
The Konawa Tigers hosted the Wewoka Tigers Monday night for a Battle of the Tigers in basketball for their “Pink-Out” night.
McKenzie Alford of Konawa knocked down a three-point shot, and Kadie Jencik scored 4 points to help the Konawa Lady Tigers go up 5 in the first quarter.
The Wewoka Lady Tigers fired right back in the second with Leilani Scott scoring 7 points in the frame to help Wewoka take a onepoint lead at the half.
Both teams fought hard in the third. Konawa shot 3 of 3 from the foul line and Jencik again scored 4 in the frame and Heavenli Hill of Wewoka scored 6 in the quarter with one being a three-point shot.
The Konawa Lady Tigers were only down by 4 points heading into the final quarter. Both teams stepped up their offenses and lit up the scoreboard. Chloe Tebe knocked down two treys in the frame to help the Konawa Lady Tigers score 14 in the frame, but the defense committed multiple fouls on Wewoka as the Lady Tigers shot 6-17 from the foul line.
The game was close, but the Wewoka Lady Tigers won the battle with a final score of 43-38.
Leading for the Konawa Lady Tigers was Chloe Tebe with 10 points, two treys and was 2 for 2 from the foul line.
Kadie Jencik scored 10 points in the paint.
McKenzie Alford scored 7 points, one trey and was two for two from the line.
Scoring for the Wewoka Lady Tigers was Leilani Scott with 14 points and was 6 of 12 from the foul line.
Heavenli Hill had 10 points, one trey and was 5 of 8 from the line.
Jhaivyn Patton had 9 points and was one of five from the line.
The Konawa Tigers boys were next to face the Wewoka Tiger boys.
The game started slow on offense as both teams struggled to score in the first half of the first quarter. Wewoka scored first and took the lead with an 8 to 5 score in the first.
The Konawa Tigers found their three-point range in the second with Tyler Whitley and Tanner Johnson scoring a trey. The Wewoka Tigers continued with their game plan and racked up 11 points before the half.
The Konawa Tigers were down by two coming out from the break.
Both teams came out shooting in the third. Braylon Hunter of Konawa drained a three and Matthyus Bruner of Wewoka hit a three-pointer and Bill Stephens scored 6 points to extend the Wewoka lead.
The Konawa Tigers were looking at a 5-point deficit heading into the final frame.
The offense of Wewoka continued with their momentum, scoring 16 points in the quarter with a three pointer from Cameron Campbell as the defense held the Konawa Tigers to 7 points.
The Wewoka Tigers won their battle over Konawa with a final score of 53-39.
Scoring for Konawa was Tristan Lankford with 8 points in the paint.
Messiah Osbourne with 7 points and was three of four from the line.
Tanner Johnson had 6 points, both from threepoints shots.
Scoring for Wewoka was Ladarius Woods with 15 points and was one of four from the free throw line.
Bill Stephens had 14 points in the paint.
Nadim Bruner had 11 points and was one of five from the line.
