Wewoka Tigers Beat #2 Vanoss at Home Monday Night

The Wewoka Tigers host-ed the Vanoss Wolves on Monday night for their first game after the holiday break.

The Wewoka Lady Tigers started off the evening facing the #4 Vanoss Lady Wolves.

The Lady Tigers stayed right with Vanoss and kept it a tight game with Leilani Scott scoring six points and teammate Heisel Sanchez knocking down a threepoint shot.

Wewoka was behind by one point heading into the second frame. The Lady Wolves took control of the game by going on a 18 to 7 run in the second to extend their lead.

The Lady Tigers were down by 12 points coming out of the half. Wewoka fired back and tried to close the gap with Emma Slovacek and Aubrey Alexander knocking down a trey each, but the Lady Wolves stepped up their offensive game and scored 23 points in the quarter.

Wewoka continued to battle in the fourth and scored three treys by Julian, Slovacek and Scott but the Lady Wolves lead was out of reach, and the Vanoss Lady Wolves won the match 71-46.

Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was Leilani Scott with 18 points, one trey and was one of three from the free throw line.

Heisel Sanchez had 9 points, two treys and was one of two from the line.

Riley Julian had 8 points, one trey and was one of four from the line.

Next up was the Wewoka Tiger boys as they took on the #2 Vanoss Wolves.

The Tigers were ready and took the lead 5-0 in the very early stage of the first quarter. The Wolves settled down and kept it close, scoring 13 points.

The Tigers had a 2-point lead heading into the second frame. Wewoka’s Mike Piza had scored 7 points in the first to help the Tigers edge the Wolves, but Vanoss stepped up their game and tied the game up before the half.

The game was tied 25 to 25 heading into the third quarter.

Wewoka got their second wind at the break and controlled the third with Bill Stephens scoring 7 points and Piza scoring five.

Wewoka had a 5-point lead heading into the final quarter. The Tigers extended their lead at the top of the quarter but relaxed a little too much and allowed the Wolves to rally back and close the gap. But time wasn’t on the Wolves side as Vanoss continued to foul to stop the clock. Stephens shot 7 of 8 from the free throw line in the final frame and Ladarius Woods shot 3 of 5 to help the Tigers defeat the #2 Vanoss Wolves 67-60.

Leading the way for the Tigers was Mike Piza with 23 points, five treys, and was four of four from the free throw line.

Bill Stephens has 22 points was 10 of 14 from the line.

Ladarius Woods had 18 points, one trey and was seven of twelve from the line.

Next up for the Tigers is the Konawa Tournament the 8th through the 10th.

The Wewoka Tigers will play on Thursday at 12:20 p.m. against the Konawa Tigers in their first round.

The Wewoka Lady Tigers will play at 4:20 p.m. on Thursday against Wilson.
