Wewoka Fall Short Friday Night Against Okemah

The Wewoka Tigers hosted the Okemah Panthers Friday night in their fourth home game of the season.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers fought hard but came up short in both games.

The Lady Tigers played first and struggled in the first quarter and was held to 6 points scored.

The Lady Panthers took control of the quarter with four three-point shots made by Callie Coon, Savannah Switch and Elaine Berryhill with two.

The Lady Tigers fired back in the second and found their three-point range with Heavenli Hill and Emma Slovacek knocking down a trey each. To close the gap some.

Okemah was still on a roll on offense scoring 22 points in the frame.

The Wewoka Lady Tigers were down by 29 points heading into the break.

Both defenses stepped up their game in the third as they battled back and forth but neither team took control of the quarter. Leilani Scott of Wewoka scored 8 points from the paint to help keep it a tight game.

The defense of Wewoka holds again in the fourth quarter and chips away at the Okemah lead, but time was a factor as time ran out for the Lady Tigers.

The Okemah Lady Panthers won the battle 71-41.

Scoring for the Lady Tigers was Leilani Scott with 12 points.

Heavenli Hill had 11 points with one trey.

Emma Slovacek had 5 points with one trey.

The Wewoka Tiger boys hit the court next to take on the Okemah Panther boys.

The Panthers took the lead in the first making their shots count with number 13 Dunmire knocking down two treys as the Wewoka Tigers struggled to make their shots count but managed 10 points in the quarter.

The Tigers settled down in the second and found their three-point range with Ladarius Woods, Bill Stephens and Matthyus Bruner each hitting a threepoint shot to close the gap. The Wewoka Tigers were down by 11 heading into the half.

The defense of the Tigers continued to wear down the Panther offense throughout the game as both teams fought tooth and nail in the third with Wewoka Tiger Woods scoring 8 points and Okemah Panther K. Berryhill scoring 7 points.

The Tiger boys were firing on all cylinders in the fourth and outscored the Panthers in the frame.

Woods scored 13 points in the quarter and Stephens scored 7 points to close the gap, but time ran out for Wewoka.

The Okemah Panthers won the fight 73-63.

Scoring for Wewoka was Ladarius Woods with 37 points, two treys, 8 shots made in the paint and was 13 of 19 from the free throw line.

Bill Stephens had 13 points, one trey, two shots in the paint and was 6 of 10 from the line.

Ayo Primeaux had four points on the evening.

Next up for Wewoka is an away game at Silo on the 7th of January.

The next home game for Wewoka is Community Christian on the 17th of January. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m.

January 9th through the 11th, Wewoka will be participating in the Konawa Basketball Tournament. The Lady Tigers will play on the 9th at 4:20 p.m. against Wilson.

The Tiger boys will play on the 9th at 5:40 p.m. against Byng.
