Varnum Whippets Win on the Road at Roff Tuesday
The Varnum Whippets traveled to Roff Tuesday evening for their fourth game of the basketball season.
The Varnum Lady Whippets and Whippet boys both came away with wins. The Whippets are now 4-0 and the Lady Whippets are 3-1 with their one loss to Earlsboro Friday night in a close game.
The Lady Whippets kicked off the evening in a great defensive first quarter battle. The Lady Whippets edged out the Lady Tigers by one point at the end of the quarter.
Varnum settled down and went to work on offense and defense. The offense scored 16 points in the frame and the defense held the Lady Tigers to only two points.
The Lady Whippets had a sizable 25-10 lead heading into the third quarter.
The Lady Tigers fired back in the quarter with 14 points scored to try and close the gap some, but the Lady Whippets had found their rhythm on offense and extended their lead with 21 points scored.
Roff was looking at a 22-point deficit heading into the final frame.
The Lady Whippets eased off the gas in the fourth but still held the Lady Tigers to 12 points scored.
The Varnum Lady Whippets won 54-36.
For the Lady Whippets, Katherine Morgan scored 13 points, three 3-point shots, 5 assists, 8 rebounds, one block, 4 steals and was 2 for 2 from the foul line.
Jazmyn Williams had 12 points, one rebound and one steal.
Ashlyn White-Richards, Jenna Lofton and Miley Wildcat each scored seven points on the evening.
The Varnum boys faced the Tigers in the following game and were ready to play.
The Whippets took off with an early lead and didn’t look back. Varnum took a 22-5 commanding lead in the first quarter.
The second frame wasn’t any better for the Tigers as the Whippets went on a 30 to 3 run before the half.
The Roff Tigers struggled on offense throughout the game and only managed 9 points in the third.
The Whippets continued with their game plan on offense and extended their lead by 20 points by the end of the third.
The Tigers found some momentum in the final frame and scored 18 points, but Varnum had eased up in the fourth and cruised through the rest of the game. The Varnum Whippets won the lopsided game with a final score of 84-35.
For the Varnum Whippets, Trenton Mack had 15 points, all from three-point range (5), one assist, one rebound, and one steal.
C.J. Bernard had 15 points, one assist, 3 rebounds, one block, 3 steals and was 1 of 2 from the free throw line.
Kylan Mack had 9 points, three 3-point shots, 2 assists, one rebound and 2 blocks.
Ruben Zapata scored 8 points, two 3-point shots, one assist, 2 rebounds and 3 steals.
Jon Madkins scored 8 points, 3 assists, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks and 5 steals.
Next up for Varnum is an away game at Caney on
the 15th.
The next home game is on the 19th against The Academy of OKC. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.
