Varnum Lady Whippets Softball On a 3-Game Winning Streak

The Varnum Lady Whippets traveled to Mason Monday evening for their sixth game of the season with a shutout victory.

It was Varnum’s fourth road game, and the Lady Whippets are now 4-4 on the season after the win at home against Allen on Tuesday the 19th.

The Lady Whippets went to bat first and took the early lead with Karsyn Lowery scoring on a fly ball to go up 1-0 in the first.

The Lady Eagles struggled on offense at the start of the game, but the defense held the Lady Whippets scoreless throughout the next two innings.

Varnum lit up the scoreboard again in the fourth with Kapri Rodriguez scoring on a fly ball and Riley Batchelor scoring on a sacrifice.

Mason could not get on the board throughout the game, and the Lady Whippets took advantage.

At the top of the fifth, Lowry scored on an error and Jenna Lofton scored on a ground ball.

The Lady Whippets put the game away in the sixth with Emery Roberson scoring on a ground ball.

The Varnum Lady Whippets posted a shutout win with a final score of 6-0.

Pitching for Varnum was Kapri Rodriguez who pitched four innings allowing zero runs, striking out 12 and walking one.

Cori Vigil pitched three innings allowing zero runs, striking out seven and walking one.

On Tuesday, the Lady Whippets were at home and hosted the Allen Lady Mustangs. Varnum pulled out another victory at home.

The Lady Mustangs went to bat first and went three and out as well as Varnum in the first inning.

The Lady Whippets held the Lady Mustangs scoreless at the top of the second and took advantage in the bottom of the inning with a run scored by Kapri Rodriguez.

Both teams struggled in the third with no runs scored.

The defense of Varnum held Allen scoreless again in the fourth and added another run at the bottom of the inning with Riley Batchelor scoring on a fly ball.

The Lady Mustangs would not get on the board until the sixth inning with a single run scored.

The Lady Whippets answered right back with Annakaren Prieto scoring on a steal. The Lady Mustangs took one more chance at the top of the seventh to make a comeback but went three and out.

The Varnum Lady Whippets won 3-1.

Pitching for Varnum was Kapri Rodriguez who pitched seven innings allowing one run, striking out 14 and walking five.

Next up for Varnum is the Stratford Tournament on the 21st through the 23rd where the Lady Whippets will take on Maysville and Chickasha.
