Thunder’s Coach Mark Daigneault and Shai Alexander Named Coach and Player of the Month for December

OKLAHOMA CITY, Jan. 2, 2025 – Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been named Western Conference Player of the Month for games played in December, it was announced today by the NBA.

During the month of December, Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder to a 12-1 record while averaging an NBA-best 33.3 points on 56.3% shooting to go along with 5.8 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.

After capturing Player of the Month honors in back-to-back months this season, Gilgeous-Alexander has now won three career Player of the Month awards. Gilgeous-Alexander is on pace to become the second player in NBA history to average 30+ points on 50% shooting to go along with 5+ rebounds, 5+ assists, 2+ steals and 1+ blocks [Michael Jordan (1987-88 and 1990-91)].

Oklahoma City Thunder Head Coach Mark Daigneault was named Western Conference Coach of the Month for games played in December; it was announced today by the NBA.

Daigneault receives his first career Coach of the Month award after leading the Thunder to an NBAbest 12-1 record during the month of December.

The 2023-24 NBA Coach of the Year led the Thunder to an NBA-leading defensive rating (103.1) this past month as Oklahoma City led the NBA in steals (11.85), turnovers forced (18.8) and points off turnovers (26.3). The Thunder recorded the fewest turnovers in the league during the month of December (11.4).

Under Daigneault’s leadership, Oklahoma City is off to its best start in Thunder history, and with a record of 27-5, Oklahoma City currently leads the Western Conference standings.

Heading into tonight’s game versus the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City has matched a Thunder record by winning 12 consecutive games.
