Strother Yellowjackets Win Big at Home Monday Night
The Strother Yellowjackets hosted the Konawa Tigers for their second home game of the season and protected their home court in double wins.
The Lady Yellowjackets faced the Lady Tigers first to start the evening off. The first quarter of the game was a tough battle on both sides of the ball. The Lady Yellowjackets had the edge at the end of the first quarter with a score of 8-7.
The battle continued in the second with both teams scoring inside the paint. Strother again pressure on offense and went on a 9-6 run in the second.
The Lady Tigers found themselves down by 13-17 at the break.
The Lady Tigers fired back with a couple of threepoint shots by Laila Wroolie to fire up the Konawa fans, but the Lady Yellowjackets also found their threepoint range in the third with Laniyah Harrison knocking down a trey and Brooklyn Turner knocking down two to keep the game close.
The Strother defense stepped up in the fourth quarter and held the Lady Tigers to six points scored while the offense continued to pressure and seal the win for the Lady Yellowjackets. The final score of the game was 52-31 Strother Lady Yellowjackets.
Scoring for Konawa was Kadie Jencik with 8 points and was 2 for 2 from the free throw line.
Racee Ortiz had 7 points and was 5 of 14 from the line.
Laila Wroolie had 6 points, all from three-point shots.
Scoring for Strother was Brooklyn Turner with 15 points, 3 three-point shots, and was 4 of 6 from the line.
Olivia Speers had 15 points and was one of three from the line.
Danica Morales had 14 points on the evening.
Next up was the Yellowjacket boys. Strother jumped out to a huge lead in the first with Payden Madden and Michael Kanard knocking down a three-point shot each to help the Yellowjackets go on a 19-6 run.
Konawa fired back in the second with Tanner Johnson hitting a threepoint shot to fire up the Tiger fans.
The Yellowjackets were held to 10 points scored but still had the lead at the break.
The Tigers were looking at a 13-point deficit heading into the third quarter. The Tigers struggled on offense in the second half but continued to battle.
Jeremiah Lena of Strother scored 7 points in the third to help the Yellowjackets stay ahead.
Konawa fought to the end and scored 8 points in the final frame, but the Yellowjackets found their three-point range in the fourth and lit up the scoreboard four treys by Michael Kanard, Payden Madden and James Brier with two.
The Strother Yellowjackets won the match with a final score of 60-38.
Scoring for Konawa was Tyler Whitley with 6 points.
Jamarcus Brooks, Tristan Lankford, Tanner Johnson and Messiah Osborne each scored 5 points each.
Scoring for Strother was Michael Kanard with 20 points and two treys.
