Strother Yellowjackets Protect Their Home Court Monday

The Strother Yellowjackets hosted the New Lima Falcons Monday night for their next to the last home game of the season.

The Lady Yellowjackets kicked off the evening and jumped out to an early lead with 14 points scored in the first to the Falconettes 5.

The defense of Strother smothered the Lady Falcons in the second and held them to just 2 points scored while Danica Morales of the Lady Yellowjackets scored 12 points to help the team extend their lead.

The Lady Yellowjackets had a 30-point lead heading into the third. The Strother defense continued to frustrate New Lima and held them scoreless in the third.

The offense of the Lady Yellowjackets continued to light up the board and extended their lead more.

Strother had a tremendous lead heading into the final quarter and sat out their starters as the Lady Falcons fired back. New Lima played more defensively and added 11 points to their score.

The Lady Yellowjackets lead was too much as Strother cruised in for the win with a final score of 56-18.

Scoring for New Lima was Aubrey Washington with 5 points and was one of five from the line.

Avaleigh Fields had 3 points and was one of two from the line.

Layla Cecil, Jazzy Harjo, Krissy Griffis, Abby McCulley and Mackenzie Burden each had two points.

Scoring for Strother was Danica Morales with 18 points.

Ludie Barrett-Higgins had 11 points and was three of four from the line.

Olivia Spears had 10 points and was four of four from the line.

Next up were the Strother Yellowjackets and the New Lima Falcons.

The Yellowjacket boys took control of the first quarter with Peyton Moody, Levi Gillispie and Michael Kanard finding their threepoint range to help the Yellowjackets go on a 28-7 run in the frame. Ty Martin of New Lima drained a threepoint shot to excite the traveling Falcon fans.

New Lima fought back defensively in the second but could not get things going offensively. Strother stuck to their game plan and continued to roll before the half.

The Falcons were looking at a 30-point deficit heading into the third quarter.

The Falcons struggled in the third and only managed 2 points in the frame as the Yellowjackets slowed their momentum but still widened the gap before the end of the quarter.

James Julian and Chase Ray of New Lima found their three-point range in the fourth quarter, but the Yellowjackets had a sizable lead, and Falcons fell to the Strother Yellowjackets 20-61.

Leading the way for the Falcons was Angel Clark and Alex Leaver with 4 points.

James Julian, Ty Martin and Chase Ray each had 3 points each.

Leading for the Strother Yellowjackets was Michael Kanard with 10 points and was two of three from the foul line.

Parker Moody and Peyton Moody both scored 9 points in the game.

Next up for New Lima is an away game at Bowlegs on the 3rd of February. The next few games are away before the district tournaments begin. Next up for Strother is an away game at Varnum on the 31st of January. The game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.

The next home game for Strother is Paden on the 7th of February. This game will be Senior Night. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
