Strother Yellowjackets are Runner-Up Champions at Dover Districts

The Strother Yellowjackets traveled to Dover for their district playoffs this past weekend.

The Yellowjackets faced the Oilton Panthers Friday night in their first round of the playoffs. Strother took the lead in the first and dominated three of the four quarters. Levi Gillespie scored 5 points in the first with one three-point shot to help the Yellowjackets go 13-8.

Strother stuck to their game plan in the second as Michael Kanard and Jeremiah Lena found their threepoint range in the quarter to help the Yellowjackets stay out in front.

Strother had an 11-point lead heading into the third quarter.

The offense of the Yellowjackets kept rolling in the third and extended their lead with Kanard scoring 9 points in the frame.

The Panther made a late rally but could not catch the Yellowjackets as Strother won their first round with a score of 64-48.

Leading for Strother was Michael Kanard with 22 points, 2 treys and was two of three from the foul line.

Jeremiah Lena scored 18 points, two treys and was four of seven from the foul line.

Kaden Schultz had 9 points and was 3 of 4 from the line.

Next up, the Yellowjackets faced the Dover Longhorns in their second round on Saturday.

The Yellowjackets started out slow and had a hard time finding their rhythm in the first. The Longhorns took advantage and jumped out to n 22-1 lead.

Strother fired back in the second and tried to close the gap some with Kayden Schultz and Michael Kanard knocking down two threepoint shots.

The Longhorns had a 22-point advantage over the Yellowjackets heading into the third.

Strother struggled on offense in the second half but continued to fight until the end of regulation.

The Yellowjackets fell behind and could not make a comeback. The Dover Longhorns won the Championship and the Yellowjackets won Runner-Up.

Leading for Strother was Bryce Martin and Parker Moody with five points each.

The Strother Lady Yellowjackets also played at Dover for their district playoffs. The Lady Yellowjackets faced Oilton Friday night and won 79-25 and played Dover for their second round and lost a close game 27-30.

Both the Strother Yellowjackets and Lady Yellowjackets advanced to Regionals. Both teams will play at Dover on Thursday the 20th. The girls play at 1 p.m. and the boys at 2:30 p.m.
