Strother Lady Yellowjackets Win on the Road Monday
The Strother Lady Yellowjackets traveled to Viking territory Monday night to start off the slowpitch softball season facing the Sasakwa Lady Vikings.
The Yellowjackets got on the board in the first inning when Brooklyn Turner scored on a walk, G. Reynolds scored on a walk, B. Price scored on a line drive and Gracey Rich scored on a ground ball.
The Lady Vikings answered right back in the bottom of the first with Addy Odon scoring on a line drive, KK Wheeler scored on a ground to third, McKayla Harjo scored on a line drive, Aiyana Wise scored on a pop fly by Minden Kionute and Hulbutta scored on a fielder’s choice to take the lead by one run.
Sasakwa kept the Lady Yellowjackets scoreless in the second and took advantage in the bottom of the second when Odon scored on a walk, Harjo scored on a ground ball and ShaLynn Lamb scored on a ground ball.
The Lady Vikings had a 9 to 4 lead heading into the third when Strother struck back.
Harrison scored on a fly ball while Emily Echelle scored on a throw in the same play. Brooklyn Turner singles a line drive and knocks in Kyleigh Sweet and Taos Tinsley. Tuner scored on a ground ball and Reynolds scored on a line drive, Rich scored on a ground ball and Stevie Hogue hits a fly ball and knocks in Echelle and Ludie Barrett-Higgins to take the lead by four.
The Lady Yellowjackets kept the Lady Vikings scoreless at the bottom of the third and took advantage at the top of the fourth inning at bat.
Tinsley scored on a line drive after the first out, Turner scored on a line drive by Adrienne Hagy, Price and Reynolds scored on a line by Rich. Rich scored on a ground ball and Barrett-Higgins scored on a ground to extend the Lady Yellowjacket lead. The Lady Vikings went three-and-out at the bottom of the fourth and the game was called.
The Strother Lady Yellowjackets won 19-9 to start their season.
Pitching for Sasakwa was McKayla Harjo who pitched four innings allowing 19 runs and striking out four and walking 13.
Pitching for Strother was Adrienne Hagy who pitched four innings, allowing nine runs, striking out four and walking six.
Next up for Sasakwa softball is a game against Wewoka today. The game is in Wewoka and is set to start at 4:30 with the Junior High team starting first followed by the High School. The next home game for Sasakwa is Friday the 7th against Calvin. The game is set to start at 4:30 with the Junior High.
