Strother and Varnum Win at the Little River Conference Slow-Pitch Tournament

The Little River Slowpitch Softball Tournament has come and went with the Moss Lady Pirates winning the Championship and the Strother Lady Yellowjacket are the Runner-up Champions. The Varnum Lady Whippets placed third in the tournament.

Seminole County was well represented with Bowlegs, New Lima, Sasakwa, Strother and Varnum competing in the tournament.

The Sasakwa Lady Vikings fought well but lost out on Monday. Their first game was against New Lima. The game went back and forth but the Lady Falcons won the match with a final score of 12-11. In their second round, the Lady Vikings faced Bowlegs and lost with a final score of 4-8.

The Bowlegs Lady Bison faced Strother on Monday in their first round and lost 3-18. The Lady Bison faced Sasakwa next and won the match 8-4 to advance. On Tuesday, the Lady Bison took on the Macomb Lady Hornets in their next match. Bowlegs fell out of the tournament with a final score of 7-12.

The New Lima Falconettes started their tournament facing Sasakwa Monday. New Lima pulled out the victory in a close game with a score of 12-11. Next the Falconettes faced the Moss Lady Pirates and lost 0-19. The Lady Falcons then faced the Mason Lady Eagles on Tuesday and fell just short of the win with a final score of 8-9.

The Varnum Lady Whippets started their tournament facing the Macomb Lady Hornets Monday and dominated the game with a score of 16-1. Every member on the team scored a run. Maegan Wildcat led the team with three runs scored.

Varnum moved on to face the Strother Lady Yellowjackets Tuesday afternoon. Both teams were ready to play as neither team scored a run in the first 5 innings. Varnum took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a run scored by Jenna Lofton and Katherine Morgan. The Lady Yellowjackets rallied back and scored 4 runs in the top of the seventh and held the Lady Whippets scoreless in the inning to win the game 4-2.

The Lady Whippets now moved on to face the Mason Lady Eagles. Mason jumped out to an early lead with a single run in the first. The Lady Whippets struggled in the first two innings with no runs scored.

Mason added to their lead with another run in the third, but the Lady Whippets answered back with two runs by Lofton and Morgan. The Lady Eagles scored another run in the fourth to regain the lead, but Varnum fired back when S Yott and Maegan Wildcat scored on a line drive.

The Lady Eagles kept fighting and scored another run to tie the game up at 4 runs apiece. Varnum regained the lead with a run by Morgan. Mason never gave up and scored another run to knot the game up again, but Varnum scored two more runs to win the game 7-5. The Lady Whippets now faced the Earlsboro Lady Wildcats. The game was close, but the Lady Whippets overpowered the Lady Wildcats and won 9-7. Almost everyone on the Varnum team scored a run in the game except Karsyn Lowery.

With the win, the Lady Whippets were matched up again against the Strother Lady Yellowjackets for a chance to play in the Championship game against Moss. Strother went to bat first and went three-andout. The Lady Whippets got on board when Morgan scored on an error. The Lady Yellowjackets fired right back and scored three runs in the second to take the lead. Varnum struggled again against Strother in the second.

The Lady Yellowjackets extended their lead with two more runs to go up 5-1 at the top of the third. The Lady Whippets scored a run in the bottom of the inning with Morgan scoring on a line drive by Shysie Harjo. Strother put the game out of reach with four more runs scored in the fourth inning. Varnum had no answer in the inning. Each team scored a run in the fifth and the Lady Yellowjackets scored two more runs in the sixth to seal the win. Harjo scores on a ground ball for Varnum but it didn’t help much. The Strother Lady Yellowjackets won the game 12-4 to advance.

The Varnum Lady Whippets just won third place in the tournament.

The Strother Lady Yellowjackets started their tournament out facing the Bowlegs Lady Bison Monday. The Lady Yellowjackets took control of the game and won the match in the fourth inning with 11 runs scored and won the game 18-3. Gracey Rich led Strother with four runs scored.

The Lady Yellowjackets took on Varnum in their next round Tuesday. The game was an even matchup between the teams but in the seventh inning, Emily Echelle scored on a sacrifice fly by Kyleigh Sweet and Brooklyn Turner hit an inside the field home run, knocking in Laniyah Harrison and Paige Atkeson to win the game 4-2.

The Lady Yellowjackets was undefeated and now faced the undefeated Moss Lady Pirates. The Lady Pirates dominated the game from the first inning, scoring 3 runs. The Lady Yellowjackets struggled in the first two innings with zero runs. Strother got on the board in the third with Atkeson scoring on a sacrifice fly by Turner. Strother would not score another in the game. The Lady Pirates won 16-1. The Lady Yellowjackets had to fight their back into the Championship round just like the Varnum Lady Whippets fought back after losing to Strother and faced two teams and won to take on the Yellowjackets one more time for a chance to play in the Championship game.

Varnum took the early lead with one run in the first. Strother answered back in the second when Ludie Barrett-Higgins scored on a ground ball, Echelle scored on a ground and Atkeson scored on a ground ball. Varnum struggled in the second.

Strother added to their lead with Gracey Rich scoring on a fly ball and Barrett- Higgins scored on a ground ball in the third. The Lady Whippets continued to battle and added another run to their score in the inning.

The Lady Yellowjackets pulled away in the fourth with Atkeson scoring on a ground, Sweet and Turner scored on a line drive and Rich scored on a line drive.

Varnum added another run to the score and Echelle scored a run in the fifth.

Strother put the game way when Rich and Brooklyn Price scored on a ground ball. The Lady Yellowjackets won 12-4 to advance to the Championship game against the Moss Lady Pirates once again.

The game only lasted three innings with the Lady Yellowjackets batting first. Strother went three-andout. Moss jumped out to a huge lead with 7 runs scored in the first.

It was an uphill battle for Strother and the Yellowjackets could not get on the board in the second. Moss added three more runs in the inning to go up 10-0.

The Lady Yellowjackets had no answer in the third and went three-and-out. The Moss Lady Pirates put the finishing touches at the bottom of the inning with two more runs scored. That was the end of the game. The Moss Lady Pirates won the LRC Softball Tournament 12-0 with the Strother Lady Yellowjackets winning Runner-Up.
