SSC Baseball Win Series at Home Over Connors State
The Seminole State Trojan baseball team hosted the Connors State Cowboys Thursday in the first game of a 3-game series.
The Cowboys went to bat first at the top of the first inning went three-andout. The Trojans jumped on the board when Kendall McDowell scored on a line drive and Wilfred Gonzales scored on a fly ball to take the lead.
Connors struggled in the second and went scoreless as well as the Trojans.
The Cowboys got on the board at the top of the third with a score on a fly ball. Seminole State answered right back when McDowell scored on a ground ball.
Connors State again went three-and-out at the top of the fourth. The Trojans lit up the scoreboard again when Hunter Dearman steals third base and then scores on a line drive by Cohl McCoy. McCoy scored on a line drive by Tyler Payton to extend their lead.
The Cowboys were down by four heading into the fifth.
The Cowboys continued to struggle in the fifth inning and went scoreless. The defense of the Cowboys stepped up and kept the Trojans scoreless as well in the inning.
At the top of the sixth, Connors State hit a homerun and knocked in two players to close the gap by one run.
The Trojans had no answer in the bottom of the inning and went 3 and out.
The Cowboys could not capitalize on the opportunity and went three-and-out at the top of the seventh. The Trojans finally answered back with eight runs in the inning. Payton scored on a fly ball to start the inning, Gonzalez and Daniel Restrepo scored on a line drive, Bennett Crafton and Grayson Childers scored on a fly ball to center field, Dearman scored on a error, McCoy scored on a fly ball and McDowell scored on a ground ball to seal the win.
The Seminole State Trojans won the first game of the series 14-4.
Pitching for SSC was Declan Dahl who pitched six innings, allowing four runs, striking out four and walking four.
Cash Coble pitched two innings, allowing zero runs and striking out two.
In the second and third round of the series, the Seminole State Trojans won and lost a close one at home.
In the second game of the series, the Trojans went to bat first but both teams struggled in the first two innings.
At the top of the third, SSC got on board first with Gonzalez scoring on a ground ball and Restrepo scoring on a ground. The Cowboys had no answer and went three-and-out at the bottom of the inning.
The Trojans continued with their momentum and scored two more runs when McDowell scored on a sacrifice fly and Restrepo homered on a fly ball.
Connors State finally answered back with two runs scored at the bottom of the fourth.
The Trojans continued with their game plan and added to their lead at the top of the fifth when McCoy scored on a fly ball and Payton scored on a line drive.
The Cowboy’s frustrations continued throughout the rest of the innings and went scoreless. The Trojans sealed the win in the seventh inning when Gonzalez scored on a fly ball, Restrepo scored on a fly, Crafton scored on a fly ball and G. Childers also scored on a fly ball.
Pitching for the Trojans was Matt Hudspeth who pitched 5 innings, allowing 2 runs, 1 home run and one walk.
Jackson Picklesimer was the relief and pitched two innings.
Both teams regrouped and focused on the next game of the series.
The Trojans again went to bat first in the final game, SSC went three-and-out to start the game. The Cowboys got on board first with a single run in the inning.
The Trojans tied things up in the second inning when Restrepo scored on a fly ball. Seminole State kept the Cowboys scoreless in the inning.
SSC took the lead in the third when McDowell scored on a ground ball. Connors State tied the game with a single run.
The Trojans regained the lead at the top of the fourth when G. Childers scored on a ground ball. Again, the Trojans held the Cowboys scoreless in the inning.
Neither team lit up the scoreboard in the fifth. The Trojans added to their lead in the top of the sixth with Dearman scoring on a line drive.
The score was 4-2 Seminole heading into the top of the eighth inning. SSC’s Angel Tiscareno and Tagen Simon scored on a line drive by Payton to make it 6-2.
The Cowboys got on the board after four innings with 2 runs scored to close the gap by 2.
The Trojans had one more chance to keep the lead in the top of the ninth but went three-and-out. The Cowboys took advantage and scored three runs in the inning to pull ahead and win the game in the last inning. The final score of the game was 7-6 Connors State.
Pitching for Seminole State was Denver Hamilton who pitched 6 innings, allowing 2 runs and striking out three.
Luke Saunders pitched one inning, allowing 2 runs, 2 strikeouts and walking one.
Next up for Seminole State is Redlands today at 1 p.m. at home.
